Tetraevangelion [microform], [143-?].

Gospel texts, with heading and preface by Theophylactus and calendar of saints. Leaves 231a-235b, list of readings for weekly and festal occasions. Resurrectional prokeimenon on leaf 237b. Leaf 238a, a table of modes for the weekly Gospel. Additions on leaf 238b in red ink are unclear. Ornamentation characteristic for a tetraevangelion. All the Gospels begin with vjaz, and the headings are in either Balkan or Byzantine style. Below the table of modes on leaf 238a, a colophon "forgive the sinner Priest Nikodim." There are twenty-nine quires with 8 leaves, one quire with 4 leaves (the first one) and one with 2 leaves (the ninth). The manuscript is similar to Ms. Narodna Biblioteka "Kiril i Metodiì†" No. 41, also copied by Nikodim.

The Scrinium of the Roman Church existed from the 4th century, functioning as both library and archives. In the 6th century it was under the Primicerius Notariorum (see ID VATV032-A). By the end of the 8th century it was headed by the Bibliothecarius, who also served as the chancellor. This library was lost in the 13th century. New collections were transferred to Avignon with the papal court, and were left there when the popes returned to Rome. The present library was founded by Nic...
